The flood alleviation scheme comprised the construction of a swale some 25m wide and 1m deep within the historic parkland to the front of the Court including the design and installation of a new vehicular bridge, the refurbishment of the historic metal estate gates and fencing and the extension of a limestone boundary wall. The subsoil arisings were spread on adjacent fields and ploughed into the existing sward prior to seeding to create a wildflower meadow.
Located in a historically sensitive landscape the project involved close liaison with the National Trust Archaeologist and County Archaeologist to achieve an acceptable design including a geophysical survey, trenching investigation and archaeological watching brief.
The car park improvements were successfully completed in 2009 and the flood alleviation proposals were completed in 2011.
