Da Sha River, the 'Mother River' inherits the memories of Nanshan throughout its long history. However, with the rapid development of the economy and the increase in population, people have gradually forgotten the joy of living with the river. During past decades of unparalleled progress in Shenzhen, the River was forgotten and no longer has a dialogue with the city.
In order to achieve the River's regeneration, the designers used the concept of ' Rebirth', addressing the re-connection of the historical relationship between people and water. Through the improvement of the landscape, a diversified urban riverbank sequence and urban water bank environment was created which brings the river back to the city and the memories to the people's life. The project concept integrated the multi-professional solutions into a cohesive design approach to improve the quality of existing greening, structures and facilities, linking the bicycle and walking paths on both sides of the river channel. Not only creating a flexible public space for enjoying the landscape experience, but also improving the city's ecological environment. Rejuvenated with vitality, Da Sha River has once again become a comfortable and a romantic riverside setting as remembered in history.
Landscape Architects led an integrated design team to provide solutions for Local Government and coordinated professional services throughout the whole process to ensure the timely implementation of urban renewal strategies, ecological restoration, strategic water engineering services and architecture. This effectively solved issues such as green space expansion, ecological restoration, and urban utilization.
The overall improvement of the Da Sha River Ecological Corridor has exerted a tremendous impact on the Shenzhen's green fabric by integrating the nearby loose green patches into one cohesive open space system. The construction of Da Sha River Park greenery, ecological wetlands, leisure corridors, landscape furniture and other facilities will further provide residents with a more comfortable living and leisure environment which significantly enhances their quality of life. The design for Da Sha River Restoration has created a high-quality public landscape space to improve the ecological environment of Shenzhen.
