A project to develop a community garden through extensive local resident and stakeholder engagement, within Frank Banfield Park, London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. The works included constructing a shipping container building with green roof including accessible toilet, tool store and covered working space. Externally the garden includes raised bed allotments, compost bins and cycle parking, raised wildlife pond, sculptural habitat wall made from reclaimed materials, access paths, fencing, and hedging, perennial gardens and orchard trees. A Tiny Forest was also delivered through working in association with Earthwatch Europe. The project was completed in May 2024 and is now managed by Hammersmith Community Gardens Association. The Tiny Forest is monitored by Earthwatch Europe including working with local schools to provide access to the space to assist with monitoring the development of the Forest and its ecology.
The community engagement strategy has included: Community and wider stakeholder engagement at different design stages through on-site events and workshops to discuss design concepts and options. These events were used to build up membership of the Friends Group. A programme of activity workshops organised in association with Hammersmith Community Gardens Association on site including Halloween, Christmas and planting themed workshops.
