Southern Green Ltd was appointed as the lead consultant of a multi-disciplinary team for the preparation of the Conservation Management Plan and Stage One and Two ‘Parks for People’ Heritage Lottery Funded bids, which were guided by extensive public consultation. Southern Green acted as Lead Designer and Contract Administrator for the parks contract and latterly became Project Manager for the project, which began on the ground in spring 2009 and was completed in 2011.
The project has since won numerous awards including a RIBA Award, a North East RICS Award and a Lord Mayors Design Award. The project was also Highly Commended at the Landscape Institute Awards in 2012.

Brief
The project was to develop a masterplan and detailed conservation and restoration proposals for five linked parks within the Ouseburn Valley. Although popular, the parks had lacked investment and were in decline. The Councils vision was to renovate the parks as a focus for public participation, promoting social cohesion and healthy living whilst creating an education, conservation and heritage resource.
