Sky UK Campus

The client brief was to create a large English garden within which the very modern buildings sit. The garden is meant to contrast with the building aesthetic, which is vast, silver, and technological, and to be a welcoming outdoor environment for staff, providing space for contemplation, socialising, activities and events.

We proposed a design that expresses English garden principles in a contemporary way to enrich the daily experience of SKY staff. This composition was achieved through the creation of landscape character zones, linked together by a network of direct and recreational pathways. This connective tissue links into the building network, and encourages employees to explore the landscape, allowing contemplation, refreshment and social interactions to occur naturally. As within the SKY Central building, the landscape is an open space where both ideas and people flow and interweave continually. A further layer of structural tree planting reinforces the character areas, defines space, and provides focal points and special features throughout the campus.

  • Brief

The client brief was to create a large English garden within which the very modern buildings sit. The garden is meant to contrast with the building aesthetic, which is vast, silver, and technological, and to be a welcoming outdoor environment for staff, providing space for contemplation, socialising, activities and events. To meet this brief, we worked hand-in-hand with the client (the CEO of SKY himself), to develop a contemporary version of the English garden that would bring joy and beauty to the daily lives of SKY staff. The design had two major organising components that allowed us to meet the brief: a series of organising and experiential pathways, layered with a composition of English landscape typologies. This connective tissue links into the building network, and encourages employees to explore the landscape, allowing contemplation, refreshment and social interactions to occur naturally. As within the SKY Central building, the landscape is an open space where both ideas and people flow and interweave continually.
