The improved park would celebrate the achievements of its great forebears, Captain Cook, Henry Bolckow and Councillor Stewart, displaying the imaginative drive of the people that made Middlesbrough great to local, national and international visitors alike and showcasing artistic, environmental and technological innovation. The Stewart Park project is special because it has safeguarded a magnificent designed landscape, a rare and precious survival within the urban sprawl of Middlesbrough, which can now be cherished by future generations.
Sustainable uses have been found for the fine Victorian stable yard complex, transforming a previously neglected council depot into a vibrant new resource for the park with community needs firmly at its heart.
