Living in the Landscape
Thamesmead presents London's most significant opportunity for transformation at scale, connecting people and place through landscape.
As Thamesmead's largest landholder, Peabody commissioned LDA Design to produce a green infrastructure framework to guide development there. The brief was to analyse the potential of the landscape of the town to create a place of choices, where people feel they belong, and then communicate this in a way that captures the imagination. Living in the Landscape is a powerful and beautifully illustrated vision of a different future and also a practical guide to its delivery.
LDA Design assembled a team of architects, engineers and specialists in SuDS, active leisure, natural capital accounting, ecology and land management. They were asked to show how the landscape of Thamesmead should be the engine for regeneration and how it could change to provide a more equitable and healthy future for its people.
Living in the Landscape shows Thamesmead reimagined. It is a statement of placemaking intent which has at its core a clear vision based on six tenets: opportunity, biodiversity, inclusivity, resilience, connectivity and long-term care, underpinned by all the technical information necessary.
